Iraq in Turmoil amid Iran’s Efforts to Retain Power

The state of Iraq was created after the First World War by the British for their Imperial reasons, but never managed to achieve real nationhood with the cobbling together of Sunni, Shiite and Kurd populations.

Following the country’s over-reach under the leadership of Saddam Hussein and his subsequent defeat by the US, Iraq’s neighbour and rival, Iran, has managed to gain significant influence over Baghdad, even now during the current government crisis. So is the Iranian domination over Iraq a permanent feature, or can it be weakened by both internal and external forces?
