The Russia-Ukraine crisis: Implications for the Middle East

However the Russia-Ukraine crisis unfolds, with its political and military dimensions, the Middle East is more than a curious bystander watching a tense face-off in the neighborhood. It will have significant implications for the relative power and influence of Russia and the United States. The value of alliances, formal ones such as NATO and less formal ad-hoc coalitions in Syria and elsewhere, will be tested. Governments from Beirut to Baghdad and Ankara to Amman will reassess their policies. So while the immediate turn of events is to risky to forecast in this forum, we will try to analyze the various outcomes should the crisis move in several alternatives directions.
