Military’ Mideast deployment amid rising tension

Last month the Naval force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards conducted a military exercise off and on the coast of Abu Musa, one of three disputed islands strategically situated in the Straits of Hormuz. Iran unilaterally took possession of them some fifty years ago, but they are also claimed by the United Arab Emirates. In order to reassure the Emirates, as well as other Gulf countries, of American support against Iranian aggression, CENTCOM Commander General Eric Kurilla and NAVCENT Commander Vice Admiral Brad Cooper transited the Straits of Hormuz on board a guided-missile Destroyer, inspecting the potential Naval front and visiting friendly capitals along the Gulf. Is Iran spoiling for a fight, and what might happen should it get its wish?
