Winter is never a fine weather time on Israel’s Northern frontiers, with heavy rains, poor visibilty, frosty weeks and unforgiving terrain degrading regular military abilities to conduct operations and giving an audacious planner an opportunity to surprise the other side. It is therefore an added challenge for the Israel Defense Forces on its forward deployment in both Syrian and Lebanese territories, and with diplomacy with Damascus and Beirut gaining little to no traction. What are then the prospects for breakthrough on either of the two Northern sectors?
