Lebanon: Between Diplomacy and War

In Donald Trump’s view of the Middle East, Lebanon is - or at least should be - part of a Turkey-led area which also includes Syria and Iraq.

Trump regularly praises Ankara, its military, and President Erdogan. This view, however, can hardly come into fruition as long as Hezbollah is a terror organization rather than a political party and its actions against Israel are part and parcel of Iran’s scheme of regional dominance. Can the small and slow deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces into some of the strips held by Israel just north of its border counter-balance the major thrust of American policy vis-a-vis Beirut?
