For the last five months Israel has had to adjust its Syrian policy to fit the post-Assad reality. The born-again image that the new ruler Joulani is trying to project is rightfully viewed with well-earned suspicion.
Turkey’s domination of its southern neighbour is considered a potential threat, and its pro-Druze policy is viewed favourably by elements in the Druze communities in both Syria and Israel, but could also draw Israel into a Syrian quagmire much the same way its alliance with the Katayeb party lured the Begin government into a lengthy fiasco in Lebanon.
