Please join host Amir Oren for an interview BG Gvaram Haglili, IDF Chief Safety Officer Brigadier-General Gvaram Haglili serves in a unique position in the Israel Defense Forces.
Haglili, a former Infantry leader who was wounded in combat and then had to make do with staff slots, where he could bring to bear his field experience, is the General Staff’s first Safety and Quality Assurance Chief. While commanders are obviously accountable to whatever happens in their units, Haglili supervises the doctrine and methods of military performance. The goal, of course, is to minimise the number of casualties from various kinds of incidents caused by negligence or recklessness, whether by young draftees, slightly older junior officers or the top of the chain of command. BG Haglili retired as a Colonel following a long career, worked for another national agency and was then asked by the IDF Chief to wear his uniform once more, in order to help preserve that most precious of resources, the life of a soldier, sailor or airman in the nation’s service.
