Following years of ongoing negotiations, the Islamic Republic of Iran has managed to reach an understanding with the P5+1 – the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, The United States, Russia, China, France and Britain; Plus Germany.
Under the agreement, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Iran agreed to eliminate its stockpile of medium-enriched uranium, cut its stockpile of low-enriched uranium by some 98%, reduce about two thirds the number of its centrifuges for at least fifteen years, and allow the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, to monitor and verify Iran’s compliance with the agreement – those among others; in return for the removal of the sanctions imposed on Tehran, which have severely crippled its economy.
