As soon as the horrific nature and unbearable magnitude of the atrocities perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli civilians were grasped by governments and people around the world, the shock and empathy were translated into political and military backing by the United States and by expressions of support by several Western countries. But how solid is this stand going to prove when Israel makes good on its vow to exact an unprecedented revenge on Hamas in the densely populated Gaza Strip?
Could Israel feel constrained by the argument that it should play by other rules than the Barbarians who penetrated its gate and massacred its peaceful residents?
