The first commandment that God gave the Israeli nation was circumcision. It is also the earliest tradition which displays the special characteristics of the nation. Circumcision is performed by over 97% of the country's Jews.
We joined Hadar and Idan Rubin's circumcision ceremony that they held for their firstborn son. Despite the natural nervousness they felt before the procedure, the parents of the newborn did not have the slightest doubts about doing it.
In October 2013 the European Parliament defined circumcision as a violation of the child's physical integrity. In the name of human rights, it encouraged
European countries to institute a circumcision ban. This proposal angered the Jews in Europe, who saw it as a step towards a very dangerous direction.
