Russian President Vladimir Putin's declaration of victory over terrorist elements in Syria and his demanded shift-of-focus to a political-course has been met by the United States with skepticism, as Washington argues that Putin's declaration of a so-called triumph against the Islamic state was premature. Nevertheless, international aspirations to pursue a political process between the Syrian government and opposition has proven increasingly challenges amid clear successes on the ground by the Assad regime.
